Tomb Raider sequel exclusive to Xbox in Xmas 2015

Rise of the Tomb Raider
Microsoft has snagged a gaming coup, with the announcement that Rise of the Tomb Raider, the sequel to 2013's well-received reboot of Lara Croft, will be exclusive to Xbox One.

Speaking at the Xbox press conference at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, the head of development studio Crystal Dynamics, Darrell Gallagher, revealed the new game will be coming to the console in the holiday 2015 release window.
"We are pushing to deliver a game that defines 'survival action'," Gallagher said. "You'll explore huge areas in some of the most beautifully hostile places on Earth, you'll conquer bigger, better, more challenging tombs, you'll have the thrills of some unforgettable action moments, and we will continue to bring you the best combat bow in gaming."
Rise of the Tomb Raider was first revealed at E3 earlier this year, and centres on Lara overcoming the emotional turmoil following her escape from the hellish island of Yamatai. One of the few survivors of a doomed archaeological expedition, Lara was forced to survive off the land and learn to defend herself. As well as the action Gallagher promises, the sequel will also delve into the psychological trauma of her experience, treading rare ground for mainstream games, while continuing this younger version of Lara's development into the more familiar heroine of the classic games.
"We're incredibly excited to have Rise of the Tomb Raider come to our platform exclusively," said Microsoft's corporate Vice President, Phil Harrison. "It's a franchise I've admired for over 18 years, and I can't wait for Xbox One gamers to play the game next year."

The first game in this reboot series sold more than a million copies in its launch weekend, and became the highest sellingTomb Raider game to date. Once seen as a PlayStation icon, Microsoft's signing of the character as an exclusive is likely to help shift more than a few Xbox One consoles.
